About Me

I was born in Ghana, where I was educated as a teacher and taught English to adults for about five years. When I came to the United States in 2004, I changed my profession and became a caregiver, because I have a passion for helping people. I attended a training program and become a Home Health Aide and started working immediately. I've taken care of many kinds of people, both men and women, with various conditions. and I'm able to take care of them properly. When I'm not working, I read and watch soccer on television.

My husband had a severe stroke and needed 24/7 care. I had a team of two caregivers who were wonderful. Abuu usually lived with us from Friday-Monday and he was with us from 2015 until my husband died in September 2018. The stroke left my husband completely immobile, so Abuu did everything for him. He was very good at transferring him from his bed to the wheelchair, and gentle when helping with bathing, toileting, and dressing. I did the cooking and laundry, but Abuu was willing and able to do it when I couldn't. He is a quiet man, and very polite. When he made suggestions, I never felt pressured to follow them, though they were often good suggestions and I did follow them. Abuu was always willing to help with anything I needed, and would take initiative to do things without being asked. Abuu and my husband had long conversations. They enjoyed each other's company and I know that Abuu really cared about my husband and was always on the lookout for his comfort and well-being. On a scale of 1-10, I would not hesitate to give him a 10.

Abuu was a wonderful caregiver for my husband from June 2018 until his death in early January 2020. My husband had Parkinson's and we had a string of female caregivers that came and went. Abuu was the first male and my husband was not happy about that. But they pretty quickly bonded over soccer and they became fast friends. My extended family loved Abuu also. He is pleasant, neat, and was always on time. In the beginning, he worked a five-hour shift, but that gradually increased, so that by the end, he was working 12 hours during the day, four days a week. His responsibilities included helping my husband shower and dress, and eventually helping to feed him and to transfer him from his bed to his wheelchair. He and I were trained on proper transferring technique, and Abbu took the time to teach the overnight aide. Abuu would bring in the groceries from the car without me asking and was a pleasure to have around. I would give him top marks and recommend him without hesitation.
