About Me

I was born in Ghana and while I was growing up, I helped to take care of my grandmother. Then my mother got sick when I was 13. As the oldest girl in the family, taking care of her was my responsibility and I did that for two years until she died. In 1999, I came to the United States. My cousin was a nurse and she saw that I liked being around older people. She encouraged me to get my Certified Nurse Assistant training and I worked with elderly dementia patients for six years in a nursing home, and then another two years in an assisted living facility. In 2011, I got my Home Health Aide training and have been working one-on-one with clients since then. I love taking care of people. It's my passion. I feel good when I know that they are okay and that I've done a good job for them. I've taken care of a husband and wife, and also worked with men and women individually. When I'm not working, I'm a homebody and I love spending time with my family.

Recommendations

I'm a 78-year-old, partially blind man and Lily has been helping me twice a week since 2016. In the more than five years I've known her, she has been an excellent caregiver. Lily is a beautiful person with a good heart. She is sensitive and she makes me happy. When she is working, she helps me shower, does my laundry, and takes me food shopping and on other errands. She is incredibly generous. When my refrigerator was not working, she found someone to fix it and paid for it out of her own pocket. She'll often bring me watermelon as a treat. Lily is reliable and clean, and she would be happy to help me cook, but I like my own cooking. She's the nicest person I've ever met.

Lily is an awesome caregiver and I'm very happy to be able to give a reference for her. Mom was on a ventilator in a facility and Lily was part of a three-person team with mom 24/7. Lily usually worked the overnight shift and since mom was not a good sleeper, there was always something to do. Lily was with mom from March 2020 until her death in July 2021. I found Lily to be very caring and to have a great attitude. She was flexible about filling in when I needed someone and communicated well with me and the other caregivers. Lily learned the ropes very quickly and was able to monitor the machines. I remember that early one morning, mom had a mucus plug and Lily reacted immediately and appropriately. Lily was there to hold her hand and help her communicate, and she was very diligent about keeping records for me. She became part of my extended family and I know I will continue to stay in touch with her. I was impressed with her family values and I know that whoever is lucky enough to have Lily as a caregiver will be very happy.
