About Me

I’m from Ghana and I've been providing care for my whole life. My younger brother is disabled and the whole family took part in caring for him. That experience made me extremely compassionate towards people who need help. In the 90s, I started caregiving in the United Kingdom and in 2018 I moved to the United States and started my caregiving career here. I love caring for people because it makes me feel really good to help people feel better. When they feel better, I do too. I consider myself an extravert. I'm selfless and passionate about my profession. When I’m not working, I love to read and learn about new things.

Recommendations

My father required round-the-clock care and Matthew was one of his caregivers. He lived with dad from Monday to Thursday from April to November of 2018, when dad passed on. Matthew is a wonderful person who knows what he is doing. My dad lost the use of both his arms and legs and required a wheelchair. Matthew was able to transfer my father to and from his wheelchair with ease. He also assisted my dad with bathing, dressing, and feeding. My dad lived in a house with both a stair lift and Hoyer lift and Matthew was well versed in how to operate both types of equipment. He was always gentle and soft spoken with my father and I trusted him fully with his care. If I needed a caregiver again, I would hire Matthew in a heartbeat. I feel that Matthew has the experience necessary to handle any case.

Matthew worked for our family as a weekend live-in caretaker for my father-in-law for more than a a year and a half from March 2018 to November 2019. During that time, Matthew showed extraordinary care, compassion, and friendship to our family. He was instrumental in helping my father-in-law live his last years in the comfort and peace of his own home. As a 24-hour caregiver, Matthew performed many necessary and critical tasks. My father-in-law had Parkinson's and dementia. Because he was not ambulatory, Mathew managed his every move from morning to bedtime, using a Hoyer lift to move him and allowing him to spend time out of bed in different areas of the house. He expertly handled toileting and dressing and my father-in-law felt very comfortable with him. He also handled much of the grocery shopping and got to know what my father-in-law liked to eat, and would prepare and feed him nutritious meals. Matthew was patient, professional, and communicated well with our family as health, dietary, or basic needs changed. He allowed us to feel confident and comfortable knowing that my father-in-law always had someone nearby whom we could trust. He stayed with my father-in-law to the very end of his life, and worked many hours attending to him as caring for him became more difficult. Without any reservation, I give Matthew the highest recommendation as a caregiver.
