About Me

I am originally from Jamaica and I came to the United States in 2006. I was doing caregiving back in Jamaica, where I worked in a hospital and took care of the elderly. When I came to America, I started working as a housekeeper, but I decided to go back to the healthcare field and work with the elderly, so I got my Home Health Aide license. I have a lot of passion about what I do. I like to help my patients, read with them, sing to them, and hug them. I enjoy making them feel comfortable. It brings out something inside of me to work with people. I'm a people person -- I'm very warm and gentle, and I love what I do. I don't leave a case until my work is done. I'm easy going, easy to get along with, and good with my patient's family and friends. In my spare time, I like to read, watch TV, and listen to music.

Recommendations

Judith was a loving 24/7 caregiver to our mother for two years, starting when our mother’s dementia worsened and she could no longer live on her own, until her death in September 2023. When we hired Judith, her stated goal was “to keep Mom happy,” and she created the space for Mom to have joy in her life, helping Mom to keep in touch with my sisters and me by texting, calling, and video chatting. We greatly appreciated that she helped Mom stay in touch with her friends. She would help Mom initiate calls and encourage her to take incoming calls. She was very patient when Mom was resistant to help, clearly understanding about the disease process. When Mom went into hospice care, Judith's previous experience was invaluable to my sisters and me. She was calm and helped us know what to expect. We tried to get extra help and she said: “I have this.” And she did. Judith is warm and caring, well-organized, reliable, and trustworthy. Mom was always clean, and Judith’s housekeeping skills were stellar. Judith has a positive outlook on life and she kept the mood in the home uplifted. Mom resided in an independent living facility though she was not independent in any way. She had no sense of time and place, so Judith helped orient her daily. Mom was also unsteady on her feet and used a walker. Judith helped her navigate but also gave her space. As her caregiver, Judith got a prepared breakfast from the Senior living kitchen, prepared lunch, and helped Mom to the dining room for dinner. Judith also helped her shower and dress, reminded Mom about toileting, and cleaned up when Mom was incontinent. We never worried about Mom when Judith was there. When she took a few days off, she always came back an hour before she was scheduled to return. Judith got along well with everyone, including members of our large extended family. She attended family dinners, events, and holiday meals. She was interested in learning about our Jewish traditions. She also was very well regarded by other residents, aides, and professional staff in the community. My sisters and I highly recommend her as an excellent caregiver.

My cousins live out of state, and I am in New York, so I am the family member who spends the most time with my aunt, who suffers from severe dementia. Judy has been living with her since April 2012, but my aunt is going to move into a facility soon. We could not ask for a better caregiver than Judy. It's the best care my aunt has ever had. Judy doesn't just do the job for a paycheck. She has an interest in the person she is caring for. She is very trustworthy. When I stop by, my aunt is always clean and well fed and I know that she is in good hands. We have a high level of comfort with Judy and that's especially important because we can't be there all the time.

Judy cared for my father for the last year of his life (2011-2012). He had fallen and broken his hip, and was suffering with dementia. He was a 97-year-old Italian gentleman who had done everything for himself and it was difficult for him to allow anyone to help him. He could be a bit combative, but when Judy came, she was a godsend. She is a caring and compassionate person who took great care of him. I can't say enough good things about her. He had some bed sores before she came, and she cleared them up. He was always clean and well fed. I used to prepare his meals, but Judy took that over. She has an easygoing way about her and I miss her.
