About Me

I am from Ghana - When I was 8 years old I visited my grandmother in the hospital with my mother and I saw that she lacked medical needs. It was very difficult for me to see her in that condition. This is what made me interested to become a caregiver. I studied accounting in Ghana but then took Pharmacy course work when I came to the US and I can apply my knowledge to my clients experience. For example, a female client I recently worked with was diagnosed with Stage 2 Lung Cancer but was very strong physically and emotionally. She was alone because all three of her children died. When I worked with her I would go with her to the treatment. Sadly, during the chemo treatment she experienced terrible side affects. I was able to comfort her during the treatment and subsequently at home after. She also insisted that I attend every single treatment after. Being able to help people who are going through tough times is what I enjoy doing. I become an advocate for my clients and they consider me family. I am involved with my Mosque and do community outreach.

Marian came to our family in the summer of 2019. My husband had fallen, had blood on his brain, and was diagnosed with aphasia. He did not have surgery, and therefore needed total hands-on care. My husband was non-ambulatory, semi-verbal, and on an IV liquid diet. Initially, Marian was scheduled for a few nights a week. After we saw how calming her presence was, and how my husband relaxed when she would speak to him, I requested Marian work full-time, 12 hours per night, 6 nights a week. Marian was so kind and respectful to my husband. I did not sleep well at night, and was able to observe how she communicated to him with regard to his care. For example, she would say, "Mr. S., I'm going to turn you now," or "Mr. S., it's time for your drink." I absolutely appreciated that, and in the time she was with us, Marian became part of our family. My husband was a tough patient, but Marian handled everything beautifully. My husband would not fight Marian, and both my daughters and I are grateful for her help. I recommend Marian without hesitation and know that whoever works with her next will be very lucky.

Marian worked with us for over two years until my husband's passing in 2012. My husband had a routine procedure that unfortunately did not turn out well. He was given the wrong medication and was hospitalized for an additional three weeks. Marian cared for my husband while in the hospital, and advocated for him when needed. She provided 12-hour/6-day care when he came home. My husband adored Marian. I would be with him all day in the hospital, and when she showed up for her shift, he'd say, "OK Joan, Marian's here. See you tomorrow!" Sadly, my husband was diagnosed with a brain tumor shortly afterward, and Marian was really needed to provide hands-on care. She always saw to it that my husband was clean and comfortable, and made sure he ate. In the last period of his life, after he was released from the hospital and sent to hospice, Marian came on her own and sat with my husband for hours. She was committed to her job and to our family. I absolutely recommend her as a private caregiver and know that someone who needs her will have only the best care from Marian.
