About Me

My grandfather back home in Jamaica was diabetic. He was elderly at the time. My mom had to provide for the family, so I was left home with my father and grandfather. I provided care for my grandfather and helped him to ambulate. I cooked for him and helped him with his medications. Caregiving has been a part of my nature for a while. I'm very compassionate about this work. It compels me to raise the bar to go further. I like to enhance the lives of the seniors who I work with. Older people need nurturing. I like being a caregiver because I'm family oriented, so I stay within that boundary. My knowledge has grown immensely by working as a caregiver. One day, maybe I'll be an RN -- the sky is the limit. I'm a nice person, I'm articulate, I'm very diverse, very friendly, and easy to get along with. I'm very kind and tolerant. I enjoy reading the newspaper. I like to watch sports, the news, and some soap operas. I also like going to mall and walking around.

Recommendations

My husband is extremely disabled from crippling arthritis and spends 90% of his time in a wheelchair. He is still a brilliant man but he is very limited in what he can do for himself. Owen was his caregiver for three mornings a week for about 15 months in 2014-2015. One of the best things about Owen is that he and my husband would read the paper together and Owen would ask great questions and keep my husband's mind sharp. Owen was able to transfer him easily and would often take him outside in the wheelchair. Of course, Owen helped bathe him, moisturized his feet and legs, prepared breakfast, gave him eye drops, reminded him about his other medications, and did light housekeeping. When my husband was hospitalized, Owen helped me get him there, and helped me bring him home. My husband can be stubborn about letting other people help, but he enjoyed Owen's company and we were happy with him. We would not hesitate to hire him again.

I'm a disabled veteran. I don't see very well and can't bend down, so Owen came to help me in 2014 for a while. He was very conscientious and really helped me out. He did some cooking, and some cleaning and helped me with things you would expect and also things you might not expect. For example, my toilet seat was loose and he took it upon himself to fix it. I would definitely hire him again.
