About Me

I am from Mali and when I left my country, my grandmother had an aggressive cancer. There was no one who could care for her the way she needed to be cared for. She passed away a few months after I moved to the United States. This is what inspired me to become a home health aide. My mother is a nurse and father is pharmacist so it made sense for me to work in health care services as well. I started studying to be an aide and then pursued college as a business major, but then decided to pursue a Bachelor's in Health Science. One client I had was a very challenging experience because she was an opioid addict. During the many months and difficult times I cared for her, I learned how to work with her and be there for her. She had many other caregivers who worked with her, but she asked them not to return. I was the only person who stayed with her and felt that it was because I was familiar with her as a person and treating her that way. My clients would call me patient, kind, caring, and always there to support them. When I am not working, I like spending time with my family, going to the park, and doing outdoor activities.

Recommendations

I hired Mariam to be with my mother after amputation surgery. Starting in October 2019, she worked Monday to Friday for 12 hours each day. She advocated for mom at the rehab facility and made sure she was clean and going to physical therapy. I didn't feel that the facility did a good job monitoring my mother's diabetes, and Marian was amazing. Then, she continued working when my mother moved to my home. I had to leave for work promptly, and she was always there on time. She made sure mom ate, checked her sugar, and got her moving around. She kept good records of what she was doing, and was always very caring. Mariam was reliable and trustworthy. I showed her what I wanted done, and how I wanted her to do it, and she followed through. I'm very particular, and I was pleased that my mother was always clean. Sadly, my mother died at the end of the year, but I really recommend her as a caregiver.

I am a Type 2 diabetic who uses insulin, and Mariam was on of the best caregivers I have ever had. Mariam worked with me hourly from approximately January 2017 through June 2017. Sometimes I have good days and bad days, and Mariam helped me by encouraging me to eat different, healthier foods, as well as preparing them for me. If Mariam had any questions, she and I would both reach out to the nurse, so we were all on the same page. Mariam treated me like a member of her own family. Sometimes we would run errands together, and if I wasn't feeling well, she would do them for me on her own. Mariam really treated me well, and she is a very special person. I cannot thank her enough for the good work she did for me. I would absolutely have Mariam back as my caregiver.
