About Me

Back home in Jamaica, I lived with my great aunts. They got sick with cancer and I took care of them. I also cared for my mom. Being from the island, it's in our nature to take care of people. I came to the United States and I've been doing this kind of work ever since. I have met some wonderful people and have remained close to my past clients. I like to wake up in the morning knowing that I'm going to take care of somebody. I love my job. I'm very friendly and compassionate. I don't like to feel disrespected and I try to help other people as much as I can. I'm very reliable, too. I look out for my clients and I treat them how I want to be treated. For fun, I love to go to the movies. I like to go out to eat occasionally but I also love to cook.

Jackie was part of every weekday morning (7 am-10 am) in the life of my husband and me from 2015 until the end of 2017. My husband died in January 2018. He was the victim of Alzheimer's and went through many changes as the disease progressed. Jackie adapted very professionally and more importantly, with genuine caring, through all the changes. She was not only acutely aware of the physical and mental challenges my husband was experiencing, but she was supportive and encouraging to me and our family. In a very short time we became very confident and comfortable that my husband was getting the best care possible. She was a perfect fit for our family. My husband proved that when he looked forward to seeing her every day. She took him to an adult day program a few mornings each week. On those days, she would shower and dress him, feed him breakfast, and walk him out of the house with a smile on his face. She has a wonderful way about her when she is taking care of someone. She was able to get him to do what needed to be done without being confrontational. During my husband's last weeks, he was in the hospital and the nurses were having difficulty feeding him because he was not very responsive. Jackie came with me to visit and offered to try to help. The nurse quickly accepted her offer and Jackie stepped to his bedside and spoke to him. He responded to her voice with a smile and she fed him with ease. That was a result of her loving care during the previous three years. It is my pleasure to share my experiences with Jackie with you. I have no doubt that she will be an asset to anyone who hires her as a caregiver.

My husband has Parkinson's and is a serious fall risk, so he couldn't be left alone. Jackie worked with him one afternoon a week, for four hours, so I could get out of the house and do food shopping and other errands. She was with us from June until we moved into an assisted living facility at the end of October 2017. Jackie is pleasant to be around and easy to talk to. My husband liked her, and enjoyed their conversations when they would take walks. I found her to be alert and attentive. She was always on time, and very reliable and trustworthy. I'm happy to recommend her as a caregiver.
