About Me

I came to the United States from Ghana in the early 1990s. I started doing caregiving because I wanted to help people who were unable to help themselves. I see some of my own family members in the individuals that I help. I easily connect with new clients because I put myself into their shoes and it helps me understand them better. My first client reminded me of my father, who I lost in my home country's civil unrest. I treated this gentleman like my father, and he considered me like a son. I helped him with everything and worked with him for more than a year. I was with him when he passed. I am very flexible with my clients' needs and will stay with them until we take care of what needs to be taken care of. My clients will describe me as caring, God-fearing, patient, and compassionate. There is nothing I will not do for my clients. For example, I provided care for a married couple for almost six years. The husband was so appreciative of the things I did for them, and it truly touched me. To me, gratitude is priceless and I felt so happy to be a part of this man's life. I would also watch game shows with him, and when he thought he won, I would help him celebrate by preparing or ordering a special meal for him. Even though this gentleman has passed, the moments I have built with the couple stay in my heart forever. I make the effort to truly connect with my clients and want them to feel loved, cared for, and special when I am with them. For example, my previous employers called me a "shining star" and appreciated my punctuality and reliability. When I am not working, I keep up with current events, watch NFL sports, and spend time with my family.

Recommendations

Cletus was my father-in-law's weekday hourly caregiver for several months until he passed in October 2019. My father-in-law suffered from pancreatic cancer, and Cletus was there to provide total care for him. When Cletus first arrived, my father-in-law could sit in a chair for part of the day and Cletus would help transfer him. As my father-in-law became totally bedridden, Cletus was able to anticipate his needs and keep him comfortable. Cletus was kind, caring, and extremely patient with my father-in-law. He is a spiritual individual, reliable and trustworthy, and takes direction well. Cletus was the right person to care for my father-in-law in his last days. He embodies everything that is expected of a caregiver and more. My life, and the lives of members of our family, were enriched because we met Cletus, and we recommend him as a caregiver without hesitation.

Cletus was my parents' caregiver from approximately June 2018 through November 2018. He initially worked 8 to 10 hours a day, but quickly transitioned to 24/4 live in. Cletus was initially brought in to assist my father, as he was diagnosed with dementia. Cletus then also started helping my mother, because she became too weak to care for my father, and then she, too, was diagnosed with dementia. Cletus provided total hands-on care for my father. He helped him get dressed, bathed, groomed, and shaved. Cletus was the embodiment of patience, and absolutely wonderful with my parents. I visited periodically, and Cletus was a good communicator. I always knew what was going on in my parents' home. Some special things Cletus would do with my parents would be to watch old TV shows, such as the Three Stooges, and sing songs with them. The most touching gesture Cletus extended toward my parents would be when they would have a conversation with him, but then repeat the conversation a short while later. Cletus respected my parents and never let on that they had just had that exchange a little while ago. There were times that my father was hospitalized, and Cletus went above and beyond by being attentive to my father and staying with him in the hospital. Nurses in the hospital also noticed how attentive Cletus was, and made sure we, as family members, were made aware. When I would visit my parents and bring them outside, neighbors would approach me and tell me how well taken care of my parents were. I absolutely concur with the individuals that have commented to me saying how lucky we were to have such a wonderful caregiver. I was 100 percent confident in Cletus' level of care for my parents, and I 100 percent recommend him as a caregiver.
