About Me

In my country, Ghana, all children were responsible to care for their parents and grandparents right after school. There were no established facilities to care for the elderly so we all lived together with our grandparents and great grandparents. We had a lot of responsibility to make sure they were comfortable and safe, and that we followed all recommendations from their health care providers. When I moved to the United States, I automatically developed an interest to work as a caregiver. I officially became a caregiver in 2010 after completing my training course. The blessings and the appreciation I get from my clients and their families makes me love this job. It makes me feel that I’m doing something right and also contributing to their lives positively. I am a very good, caring, loving, and respectful person. I take my work very seriously and make sure I do it to please my clients. I know my work very well. I’m also reliable, hardworking and a good listener. When I’m working, I help my clients with grooming, house cleaning, and cooking, and I take them out when needed, drive them to their appointments, help with medications, and see to it that they are able to visit family and friends.

Recommendations

Nana is my husband's hourly caregiver, and we cannot say enough positive things about him. Nana is punctual, reliable, and a true asset to my husband's care. My husband has multiple sclerosis and is immobile. He sometimes has trouble speaking and articulating his needs. Nana is kind, patient, and attentive. He will arrive in the morning, get my husband ready for the day, transfer him, and prepare a large, nutritious breakfast for him. Nana will also help feed my husband and assist him with drinking beverages. My husband attends our local senior center, and Nana will see to it that my husband is prepared to board the senior center bus via the chair lift. Nana also accompanies my husband to the senior program, and will also assist in feeding my husband the center-provided lunch. When Nana brings my husband home from the senior center, Nana prioritizes my husband's comfort and cleanliness, and helps get him ready for the evening. Nana will do some light housekeeping and prepare the laundry, since I am particular about who uses my washing machine. Since my husband eats large breakfasts and fairly large lunches, Nana will prepare something light for dinner and dessert, because my husband loves his sweets. Nana has a great relationship with my husband and communicates well with me. My husband sometimes gets frustrated when people around him may not understand what he is saying, but Nana does a wonderful job interpreting my husband's needs and redirecting when he sometimes gets emotional. I highly recommend Nana as a private caregiver.

Nana was my father's 24/7 live-in caregiver from 2010-2016. My father had a stroke and was paralyzed on his left side. Nana provided total personal care to my father. He also helped transfer my father from his bed to his wheelchair, etc., and would help with meal preparation, light housekeeping, and laundry. I visited the house often, and knew how things were going. Nana was also a good communicator, and would reach me via text or phone call. Nana also had to bring my father to the hospital one time because my father was unable to use the bathroom. Nana was able to accurately convey information to all medical personnel and stayed with my father until I arrived. My father was happy with Nana, and enjoyed playing cards and talking with him. Nana also happily accompanied my father to the local senior center and would see to it that my father enjoyed his day. Nana is 100 percent reliable and trustworthy, and I absolutely recommend him as a caregiver.
