About Me
I was born in Ghana. My parents moved to another county when I was seven years old, and left me to be raised by my grandparents. When I was ten, my grandmother had an accident and lost the ability to walk. We didn't have indoor plumbing and she couldn't get to the public toilets on her own. In Ghana, there is no such thing as professional caregiving; you just give care to your own relatives as needed. It became my responsibility to help her. My grandfather had pretty severe arthritis and I helped him a lot as well. As a young adult, I worked in a gold mining company in Ghana and I moved to the United States in 2008. I worked for the phone company and then in pharmaceuticals. Caring for my loved ones in Ghana helped me develop a passion for taking care of elders, so when I realized that I could have a career doing something I love, I jumped at the opportunity and got my Home Health Aide training. I like working with people and having one-on-one interactions with them. I loved hearing stories from my grandparents about when they were younger, and now I enjoy learning about the lives of my clients. I love to garden, and I learned about American football from my former client. It's not soccer, but I find it enjoyable to watch and I've become a Dallas Cowboys fan.
Recommendations
My stepfather and mother lived about an hour from me, and when my stepfather had a major stroke, I wasn't able to provide the full-time care that he needed. I hired George to live with them from October 2019 until my stepdad's death in September 2021. Dad had decreased mobility and cognition after the stroke. He could be difficult and belligerent, and he really didn't want to exercise or take care of himself. George was incredibly patient and caring and I certainly slept better at night knowing that he was there. George's responsibilities included toileting, showering, and dressing and helping with mobility. My stepdad weighed between 240-260 pounds and George is very physically strong and was always able to help him with all of his needs. I appreciated the work that George did, and I am happy to recommend him as a trustworthy and able caregiver.

My father became paralyzed on one side from a stroke, and needed a full-time caregiver. George was with him from 2017 until his death in 2019. He is a nice gentleman who was caring and patient with my dad, but the most important thing to me was that he interacted with my father. They had wonderful conversations and a good relationship. George did everything that dad needed. He mostly used a wheelchair but could get into the shower and use the toilet most of the time. When George first started, I showed him how to prepare the foods that my father liked and he learned quickly. As dad's condition changed, George made valuable suggestions to me on things we could purchase or do differently to improve my father's quality of life. He is a good man and I recommend him 100 percent.
