About Me

I like to help people. I went to nursing school in Guatemala, so I have always had the passion for this kind of work. I worked in a hospital in Guatemala for about 3 years, and I then accepted a nursing position in the government for about 10 years. I came to the United States in 2004 and that's when I got into a home health aide program here. I am willing to do whatever someone needs to be done. I never say "no." I'm very flexible, responsible, punctual, and trustworthy. I like to keep busy. In my spare time, I enjoy reading. I also like to watch movies and I love to go on vacations.

Dora has been a critical part of our family to enable my ability to go back to work. My husband had a stroke that affected his right side and he now has limited ability to achieve daily activities on his own. Dora has been very in tune with my husband's needs from the beginning. She intuitively understood when he needed help and how to help him without him losing his dignity. Dora is extremely caring and understanding and takes GREAT pride in caring for her patients. In addition to Dora being a very instinctive and genuine caregiver, she is also a certified nurse from Guatemala. Her nursing skills have absolutely come through on her day to day caring for my husband. On multiple occasions, Dora has pointed out medical concerns and always gives options on how to handle or treat. Because my husband needs a lot of therapy and has multiple doctor appointments each month, I also needed someone who was responsible enough to drive my husband to appointments as well as participate in medical appointments. She is excellent in taking notes on next steps and summarizing the doctor appointments. Because of Dora's nursing experience and caring way, I have had much less stress and concern while going back to work. I have absolute confidence in her nursing skills/healing treatment, timeliness and work ethic and her loving, energetic and empathetic attention to her patients. Any family or person that gets the opportunity to have Dora as their nurse/caretaker is in extremely confident hands.

Dora started helping to care for my 97-year-old mother-in-law in August 2016, and now, eight months later, continues to come once or twice a week. My mother-in-law is remarkably healthy. She has arthritis, but no other ailments at all. She lives in our home, and I help her with most everything she needs, but I don't want to have to fight with her about showering and keeping her room tidy. Dora is wonderful. She is patient, kind, and gentle. She is soft-spoken but she doesn't get taken advantage of, and she is very thorough. Dora helps her shower, and tries to get my mother-in-law to eat something healthy in addition to the junk food that she loves. My mother-in-law is not the easiest person to deal with and I'm impressed when I hear Dora with talking to her. For example, one day I was out running errands all morning and my mother-in-law usually worries when I am gone. I came into the house quietly and I could hear Dora redirecting the conversation about my whereabouts in a positive way. I also very much appreciate her reliability. I'm very fond of Dora, and if I could afford to have her here seven days a week, I would.

My mother had leukemia and Dora was her favorite caregiver. Dora worked from October 2016 until my mother's death in February 2017. Part of the reason that mom liked Dora was because she would come in for her shift, and intuitively know what needed to be done, and she would do it. Mom would complain that other caregivers would sit around, waiting to be told or asked to do something, but Dora never sat around. Mom's chemo left her with very little energy and she appreciated that Dora took care of things she wasn't able to do herself. She did the cooking and cleaning, occasionally helped with bathing and dressing, and was a good companion. My mother was a difficult person to please and the fact that she was a big fan of Dora's says volumes about Dora as a caregiver. I was the main point of contact and was very happy with her work. I feel like she communicated appropriately, keeping me abreast of my mother's changing health. When my mother fell and broke her rib and vertebrae near the end of her life, Dora really stepped up. I think that Dora is a really good caregiver.
