About Me

When I was a young girl in Jamaica, I wanted to be a nurse. I used to "make rounds" at night, and cover my mother with a blanket and make sure everyone was comfortable. I have the passion for this field. I never became a nurse, but caregiving is very close to the field. I love to help people and make a difference. I love to make my clients feel comfortable. Some clients might be depressed and are worried about their illnesses, so I know how to talk to them and comfort them. I like to tell stories to my clients or sing a song to make them feel better. I'm very pleasant and kind. I put myself in my client's situation, and I treat them the way that I would want to be treated if I was in their position. I like to set a nice mood for the client and make them feel important and special. For fun, I enjoy cooking and sometimes watching TV.

Recommendations

It is with great pleasure I write this recommendation for Mable. Mable has been an absolute joy to work with the past month (December 2017-January 2018). She was hired to privately take care of one of the residents in our facility. She made sure she was safe, eating properly, cleaned and being taken care of. Mable not only took care of her resident, but she would assist with the other residents. Mable is pleasant and and courteous to all of the staff, as well. She has great communication skills and everyone really loved having her during this time. We tried to hire her, but unfortunately our location is too far away for her. Mable demonstrates the character and qualities that you look for in an employee. She will be greatly missed!

I hired Mable in March of 2014 as a live-in aide to care for my mother for a little more three months. My mother had been hospitalized after being diagnosed with lung cancer. She was then transported to a nursing facility for physical therapy after-care. Once my mother returned home, I hired quite a few aides, hourly and also live-in. Finally, I found Mable. Mable's tasks were: Prepare daily meals (excluding dinner which was always provided by the community she lived in), bathing and dressing, toilet assistance, laundry, including daily bed maintenance, medications, lifting/assisting my mother in/out of bed into a wheelchair, and taking my mother throughout the building for hair appointments, walks outside, general social activities. Mable is well versed in hospice care, also very familiar with the routine of the emergency refrigerated morphine pack (which was necessary at the end of my mother’s life). Mable slept on the hospital bed provided because my mother did not wish to leave her own bed, which made it a little difficult for Mable with changing/lifting my mother, but Mable never minded. Mable was also an excellent companion. My mother did not like anyone living in her apartment with her, but she especially liked Mable's company. My mother took an instant liking to her. I also was at ease around her. She was different, and I felt I could trust her. She proved to be very responsible. Mable was always busy, never lazy. Any time I popped by my mom’s apartment without notice (which was often), Mable was busy doing something for my mother. I would describe Mable as a happy, uplifting individual to be around. She's very easy to talk to. Mable has a family of her own and also grandchildren. She is discreet, doesn't gossip, and is certainly not lazy. She's constantly helping. She does not take advantage of the situation as most other aides I hired before her did, i.e. expensive food orders, constantly expecting rides to trains, asking for exorbitant salaries. Hiring hourly and live-in aides for my mother was a huge learning curve for me. The first words out of all the prior aides' mouths that I hired were always just about money. I was the one who needed to bring the subject up to Mable, who was very fair from the first day. I have been recommending Mable ever since my mother passed away. Mable would always tell me she loved her job, loved taking care of people. I believe her because I witnessed it first hand. She also sat there with me at the end of my mother's life, working alongside the hospice nurse and taking very special care to make sure my mother was as comfortable as possible. My mother passed peacefully because Mable handled a highly emotional and stressful situation with patience and grace.

I'm an RN at a hospice organization and I have been Mable's direct supervisor on a number of cases between 2007 and 2017. I have found her to be a reliable and trustworthy employee and a competent and very caring caregiver. She sees caregiving as more than a job, and the highest praise I can give is to tell you that I would hire her to care for my own family member.
