About Me

My father is a doctor and my mother is a nurse practitioner back home in Ghana, so I was raised in the health care field. It has always been my passion to care for people. Even though I may have gone off course to start by getting my degree in administration, I still could not let go of what appears to be in my bloodline -- the healthcare field and caregiving. I am consistent in my attention to the health, hygiene, and comfort of my clients. I treat my clients with respect and dignity and have always been respectful of their need for privacy and independence. I work with my clients' various doctors and I am the family's "alarm system," letting them know as soon as problems arise. For fun, I love to play badminton and golf. I also love to read.

Our mother was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia around 2012 following a fall and subsequent operation. A degenerative disease, LBD has the characteristics of both Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. After her diagnosis she declined at an alarming rate, making it apparent within a short period of time that she would require full-time care. In 2010, our parents had been married for 56 years; our mother was 75 and our father 78. They had raised a family of five sons and were fiercely independent. My father valiantly and stubbornly tried to be our mother's only caregiver. He resisted help, because he did not like the intrusion on his privacy and because he feared having strangers caring for his wife. Unfortunately, caring for our mother was exhausting him physically and mentally, and the almost constant stream of emergencies, both real and imagined, were taking their toll on us, his children, professionally and in our family lives. That's when we hired Nana. In her quiet and steady way, she quickly won my father over, and changed his and my mother's lives for the better. I cannot praise her work enough, or relay how much our lives have benefitted from her presence. Not only did she provide care for our mother, but she also cared for my father and their home. She handled the medical and domestic emergencies that arose over the last four and half years calmly and effectively. She ensured that both my parents felt safe in their home and we had the knowledge that there was someone experienced helping them manage their health. Nana worked with our mother's various doctors, and with hospice as well. She always let us know immediately as problems arose, and she was often our solution finder, helping to put us in contact with the right people. In February of 2015, our father was diagnosed with leukemia. In March of that year, he died. Nana continued to care for our mother until she recently passed in July 2018. We have grown to feel that Nana is an extended member of our family. I recommend Nana unreservedly.

Nana cared for my mother Helen. Nana worked for us from February 2008 until July 2011, when my mother passed away. My mother had a series of strokes and needed help with basic personal care like bathing, dressing, meal preparation etc. Nana also took her to doctor visits and other errands. She stayed with her overnight as well as in the daytime. Nana was very professional and conscientious as well as extremely compassionate and kind. Nana performed her assigned duties without complaint, but also with understanding and compassion. She became close to all members of my family. I recommend her highly!
