About Me

When I was growing up in Ghana, I wanted to become a doctor. At 17 years old, I moved to the United States with my parents and siblings and I did the majority of my studies in the United States. I was majoring in Psychology and hoped to become a social worker. Unfortunately, I needed to join the workforce before I was able to complete my degree and a friend of mine introduced me to professional caregiving. I enjoy being able to help someone who can not take care of himself. When I'm not working, I like to spend time with family, go to church, and catch up on the latest television shows.

Salerce, who he called Sal, was the weekend live-in caregiver for my father from May 2022 until dad's death in October 2022. My father had dementia and he was sweet as sugar. My sister and I live very close by and we visited at least one of the two days that Sal was there each week. He is a lovely man. Sal is caring, nice, polite, responsible, and reliable. He kept in touch with my sister and me by texting and he took good care of our dad. Sal would give dad three meals a day. Sometimes he would cook, and other times there would be prepared foods. He helped dad with toileting, washing, grooming, and medication reminders. My father used a walker inside, but when the weather was nice, Sal would take dad outside in the wheelchair. I have no hesitation in recommending him.

My father broke his hip and came home from rehab needing full-time care. He was 6 feet tall and weighed 190 pounds, so he needed someone physically strong to be able to support him. Though his body was not in good shape, my dad was very sharp mentally and he loved Sal. They had lots of running jokes, they watched movies together and Sal even taught dad to enjoy watching soccer. He would supervise as dad practiced walking from one end of the room to the other. Sal engaged with dad and dad's face would light up when he knew it was Sal's shift. My family and I spent a lot of time with my father and with Sal. Though we come from different cultures, we were very comfortable around him and he became part of our family. When we had a Passover Seder, Sal was at the table with us. Sal did everything for my father. He cooked, did medication reminders, and helped with bathing and hygiene. Dad had a commode in his bedroom and it was spotless. I know that my father leaned on Sal, both physically and emotionally. Sal has a laid-back way about him. He takes his job very seriously, and does everything well -- and he has a very calm presence. Sal worked 12 hours, four days each week, from February 2019 until January 2022. I highly recommend Sal as a wonderful person and an excellent caregiver.
